The 160-kilometre Berlin Wall Trail along the former border between the Federal Republic and the GDR runs for about 20 kilometres through Spandau on its western route.
Coming from the south, the Berlin Wall Trail begins at Kladow harbour after a ferry crossing from Wannsee S-Bahn station. The route takes you to Groß Glienicker See and then north past the former Heerstraße border crossing and up to Eiskeller. Along the way, you’ll encounter numerous historical sites and information on plaques and memorial markers. The northern section through the woods and meadows of Spandauer Forst is particularly attractive.
Tip: To reach the former exclave of Eiskeller, you have to take a slight detour from the actual trail. You can reward yourself for going the extra mile with an ice cream or a cold drink in Eiskeller.
Here are a selection of places along the route in Spandau.
